comfort in faith. and joining me now is the reverend mark moore, he leads a small congregation in newtown's town center. normally your church has about 20 worshippers. >> we're a tiny little parish, one of two parishes directly in the village of sandy hook. >> what was it like today? >> we had a service yesterday at 12:00 to address this issue. it was packed with people. and even reporters from all over the world were there. australia, russia, italy, france. england, germany. all over the world. following this story. all the major networks were there. you know, cnn was there, of course. and so this is an international event. and so the churches have a particular role when something like this happens. that is to help people make some kind of sense of it. when it first happened, everyone, including me was in a state of complete shock. i heard, i'm the same as anyone else, a sense of sickening sense of how could this possibly happen. and you try to wrap your mind around it. and comprehend that you can't, it's just impossible. even the ways that we typically try to understand events like this

, not so much. bill: some of these warnings now the national debt is nearing dangerous levels. steven moore is here with the "wall street journal." what does it mean that the warnings are there, steve. >> the amazing thing about this debt. i was thinking when i first came to washington which was in the early 1980s, the debt level was about $2.5 trillion. now we are at 16.2 trillion. by the way every president goods back to dwight eisenhower has promised that they will balance the budget and the debt keeps getting bigger and bigger. the real tragedy is that over the last five years the debt has increased by almost $6 trillion. that is more money than was borrowed from 1776 through the year 1976. bill: that's ridiculous. >> it is a tragic situation. bill: what is the danger in this economically speaking for us. >> the danger is two fold. one is if you look at the budget right now and we continue on this pace of borrowing we are expected to do, trillion dollar deficits for as far as the eye can see we are looking at somewhere in the neighborhood of a trillion dollars each year bill in only ser

in the united states in the year, 150 or 70 in germany. sigh was talking to michael moore last night. australia, a country of hunters, after a terrible mass killing in 1986, in a moment, they turn around, gun rocontrol, it goes zero. there are two issues here, one is gun controls and the cuts taking place around mental illness. we don't know particularly in this case, what adam lanza's condition was, but we know if we look at the string of killings takes place from aurora, on back, not to mention what happened this week. this is a very serious issue, that the issue of mental illness, its stigma, and the lack of support and our problems with health care in this country, you put these two together, and it is a perfect storm. gun control and helping to support people who are mentally ill in this country. >> what i find so disturb sergeant reaction is a always around the additional criminalizing, of those, least involved in the attack and the deaths. so we talk specifically about the importance of having more security in schools. so now 5-year-olds -- an armed policeman is what 5-year-olds need. ye
